I am a fan of cake in general, cupcakes, sheet cake, carrot cake, it is all good to me. As a wedding photographer I love seeing all the creativity bakers and cake makers put into their craft. For my “cake themed” post I wanted to share one of the simplest yet most elegant cakes I have had the privilege of photographing.

Leia & Tyler had a stunning & sandy wedding last October in Cannon Beach Oregon. I loved the simplicity of their cake. It was also Delicious! It also happened to be sitting in the best light of the reception venue.

Picking the perfect cake is hard work! It not only needs to look awesome but it needs to taste even awesomer…yeah, awesomer. Natasha’s wedding cake was delicious and looked great as well. I ate this at her reception a couple of years ago in Bellevue….check out Natasha & Abbas’s wedding post here.

Cake! Need I say more? I’m already hungry, and I have to say this last weekend’s destination wedding in Virginia had a lot of cheesecake making my mouth water. Anyone have a favorite kind of cake out there? I would have to go with cheesecake, especially as it was what we chose for our own wedding.

Portland Oregon Engagement Session

Oh, this couple is just too adorable. Tee and Cheryl have been together for 13 years! They are getting married next month, and, to celebrate, we did an engagement session in Portland, OR. When I’m out on an engagement session I love seeing couples “in the moment”, not even paying attention to the camera. There’s a real sense of love and joy, and it’s exciting to capture. I’m also excited because in two weekends I’ll be in Virginia to shoot this couple’s wedding! So you might drop by my blog, and watch for some upcoming destination shots.

Awesome shot, Emily, and I couldn’t agree more…engagement sessions are an amazing opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera as well as with your photographer before your wedding day. A couple weeks back Mallory & Travis chose to do their session on Travis’s family farm in McMinnville. They’re high school sweethearts and an awesome couple. spring time = engagement session season!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of spending time with Matt & Oralea. As I do with all my wedding couples we were out and about in Portland to shoot some engagement photos. I think it is really important to do these sessions for a few reasons. One they are fun, we usually tromp around and spend most of the time chatting and getting to know each other. Another reason is it is fun to make beautiful images with out the stress and rush of a wedding. I always love doing these engagement sessions, and Matt & Oralea were no exception. This adorable couple was up from San Francisco to do wedding errands so we took advantage of some beautiful Oregon weather and hit the industrial east side. Here is one of my favorites from our session:

Continuing with our sole-ful theme, here’s a spotlight on a bride’s shoes that we really like (both the bride and the shoes!). A lot of thought and deliberation goes into the choice of footwear for one’s wedding, but with the rush of the day it’s one detail that can too easily be overlooked. It’s always fun to get a beautiful shot of the shoes on their own, creating a small window into the memories that form the day.
